That's about all the actual news I have.
So let's ramble. Okay? Okay.
Ramble topic one:
Erotic romance. I've never been big on the erotica genre. Not that I'm a prude. I just kinda like the stuff going on while the smut's happening more. You know, what the characters are thinking or feeling.
The one question I have is this: Am I the only one who thinks that a lot of erotica out there is kinda ummm... borderline brutal?
It concerns me, the trends I see. I understand the premise. Emboldened women embracing their sexuality and fulfilling their desires, moral high-rollers be damned. But I'm not actually seeing it in stories. I don't see fulfillment or 'freedom' in rape-fantasies or sex-with-strangers play. Or in loudly proclaiming, "I'm a slut!" I think I walk away from the stories feeling the need to shower, and not for a good reason.
Do women really fantasize about being forced, being dominated, being humiliated?
Not really empowering, if you ask me. You can add a line about the character being convinced they're wielding power by submitting, but I dunno. I think there are other ways. Needless to say, I haven't been convinced of this by the things I've read so far.
Somebody write me a story about a sexually liberated woman who is empowered by being in an equal, mutually satisfying relationship. K?
Ramble topic two:
What's worse than writer's block? Writer's limp. Go with me on this. Ever hit that part of the storytelling where you think you should be furiously pounding out story, and you're struggling just to find a bridge to the next scene?
My brain clenches, and I just can't figure out where to go next. Or I know where I want to go, I just don't know how to get there. So I eat. Or I smoke. Or I watch seven straight hours of the Weather Channel instead of writing.
No wonder my pants are so tight. I have writer's limp!
Went out on a Boomlette party date and got out to enjoy a very pretty day in the park. And I got up this morning to go stalk that covered bridge I found. Got some picspam below, but nothing very thrilling.
Oh, yeah. Happy St. Paddy's Day! Gotta throw out the obligatory blessing, right?
